SA: Abolish work for the dole says Despoja

Australian Democrats deputy leader NATASHA STOTT DESPOJA has called for the work for
the dole scheme to be abolished and the funding to be redirected into intensive assistance
programs.

Speaking at a Don Dunstan Foundation lunch in Adelaide, Senator STOTT DESPOJA has criticised
the federal government scheme as a useless labour market program with no benefits to the
unemployed.

She says it's simply a poll-driven policy.

Senator STOTT DESPOJA says work for the dole provides no real training for unemployed
people and offers no employment opportunities.

She says the scheme uses up millions of dollars in public funding which could be directed
towards training purposes.
