Vic: Murder victim may be Philippines national: police

MELBOURNE, Dec 19 AAP - A woman whose battered body was found in the front yard of
a Melbourne house may have been a Philippines national on an expired tourist visa, police
say.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said police were exploring the possibility that the woman
found dead in Melbourne's south east is the 50-year-old Filipina woman, who has failed
to return to the Philippines.

They are working with federal police and the Philippines consulate to establish the
victim's identity.

The battered body was found dumped in the front yard of house in suburban Springvale
in Melbourne's south east last Wednesday.

The body was wrapped in plastic garbage bags and looked to have been tossed over the
front fence of the unoccupied house.

No arrests have been made and police have appealed for anyone with information about
the murder to contact them.
