Vic: Minchin defends Telstra sale timing

The federal government's defended its decision to sell eight billion dollars worth
of its Telstra shares .. despite the company's share price woes.

Finance Minister NICK MINCHIN has told ABC radio .. the government was advised October
was a good time to begin the sale.

He's rejected a suggestion the government may be trying to begin the controversial
sell-off ahead of an election next year.

Despite Telstra's share price being at historic lows .. Senator MINCHIN says the sell-off
is not a fire sale.
